6 - 10 September 2015
Santiago de Compostela, Spain

The Apostolate Militaire International (AMI) gathered in Santiago de Compostela, 50 years after its founding there, to reflect on its mission and goals under the theme of pilgrimage. Delegates drew parallels between the Camino of Santiago and the life of Catholic military personnel, emphasizing faith, hope, and charity in service, particularly when confronted with challenges beyond traditional military tasks.

With its new recognition as both a Vatican-recognized lay organization and an NGO, AMI committed to serving as a forum for sharing best practices among member nations and to providing insights to Vatican bodies and other NGOs on the realities of military life. Special attention was given to supporting younger military members, who face unique challenges in the digital age, by fostering virtue, inter-religious dialogue, engaging faith education, meaningful worship experiences, and charitable activities.

The assembly highlighted AMI’s role in helping Catholic military live their vocation as pilgrims, offering practical support, moral guidance, and opportunities for cooperation, with the ultimate goal of advancing toward the fullness of God’s Kingdom.
