Modra, Slovakia
The 2014 AMI Conference and General Assembly was held in Modra, Slovakia, hosted by Military Bishop František Rábek, the Slovak Armed Forces, and their chaplains. Delegates gathered to discuss two complementary themes, focusing on the Christian vocation of soldiers and the responsibilities of Catholic military members in contemporary service.
In his closing speech, the AMI President expressed gratitude for his reelection with the Austrian-Netherlands team for another three years, highlighting the honor and responsibility of uniting Catholic soldiers from around the world. He emphasized that AMI’s mission is not only to produce results but also to foster friendship, trust, and mutual understanding, mirroring the values of family life.
The conference featured excellent lectures and fruitful discussions, leading to three concrete tasks for delegates: to live according to the Gospel-based conclusions, to spread them within their armed forces, and to share them with nations not present. Referencing Pope Francis’ words, “War is madness,” participants were reminded that their experience of conflict should strengthen their faith, deepen their trust in God, and guide their duties as Christian soldiers.
The President also encouraged military bishops and chaplains to recognize the importance of lay Catholic organizations within the military, as they support the Church’s mission and provide moral leadership among soldiers.
