The Apostolat Militaire International (AMI) convened its 61st Annual Conference and General Assembly in Zreče, Slovenia, hosted by the Slovenian Armed Forces and its Military Chaplaincy. The event brought together 42 representatives from 15 countries, including Catholic military personnel and representatives of the Association of Christian Military Fellowships and the Association for Christian Conferences, Teaching and Service. Ireland and the Ivory Coast attended as full members for the first time, as did Italy's PASFA.

The theme, "The Destructive Betrayal of Humanity: Ethical and Moral Dilemmas in the Application of Artificial Intelligence in Contemporary Warfare," addressed the extent to which AI should influence decisions involving human life and the use of military force. The discussion followed the UN Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons Group of Governmental Experts' final report on Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems, in which AMI supported the Holy See's delegation. As AI becomes increasingly embedded in defence and security — through intelligence analysis, surveillance, autonomous systems, decision support, and training — the conference examined questions of human responsibility, accountability, and human dignity, with particular focus on whether meaningful control and human judgment can be preserved in AI-assisted decisions during armed conflict.

Bishop Pavlo Honcharuk, Roman Catholic Military Bishop of Ukraine, attended with his team, expressed Ukraine's aspiration to full AMI membership, and discussed AMI's Moral Injury and PTSD train-the-trainer programme, which has trained over 700 professionals to date.

Key outputs included the "Vademecum: 10 Tools for Spiritual Resilience," ethical AI questions and answers for the Catholic Military Connect (CMC) app and Instagram, and strategic papers to be released following the conference. DeoQuest confirmed funding for a full rebuild of the CMC app.

The conference was led by Father Matej Jakopič, Vicar General of the Slovenian Military Chaplaincy. The next AMI Conference and General Assembly will be held in the Netherlands from 11–17 September 2027.
