23 - 30 September 2006
Nairobi, Kenya
The 2006 General Assembly and Conference of the Apostolat Militaire International (AMI) took place in Nairobi, Kenya. This event marked a significant moment in the organization's history as it was the first time an Annual General Assembly was held in an African country. The Kenyan hosts, including Military Bishop His Excellency Alfred ROTICH, were warmly thanked for their excellent organization and hospitality, which deeply impressed the attendees.
The central theme for the conference was "Strengthening Christian Values within Armed Forces Worldwide". This theme was explored through presentations by member countries on topics such as the Christian soldier's family life (Kenya), the challenges of leadership (Germany), and navigating a secularized society (Netherlands). During the assembly, several key decisions and actions were taken to guide the organization's future work. It was unanimously agreed to establish a new working group tasked with studying "The Christian soldier confronting the challenges of intercultural conflict". This group, chaired by the Netherlands, would examine the roots, cultural backgrounds, and religious roles in conflicts involving AMI member countries to develop guidelines for the Christian soldier. Other administrative matters were also addressed, including the unanimous approval of planned changes to the AMI Statutes, the presentation of the financial report, and the appointment of new auditors.
